The hand-braided backrest gives the solid-wood frame Näyttely chair a touch of sophistication. At the same time, it visually counterbalances the minimalist design of the chair.
The intricate braided leather back of the solid-wood Näyttely chair is an essential part of the chair’s visual identity.
The braiding of the backrest and the upholstery are handcrafted and take a skilled craftsman a whole day to make. Made from natural materials, the chair is a durable piece that will acquire a beautiful patina over time.
The Näyttely chair is a comfortable seat, even during a long meal. The leather backrest offers good support with the padded seat adding to the comfort.
Designed by Hiort af Ornäs in 1955, the chair has a solid oak frame. The Näyttely chair suits a wide range of styles and interiors, and its look can be varied by the choice of surface finish, upholstery and braided leather mesh. The braided leather backrest is available in natural nude, cognac or black. The leather upholstery comes in the same colours. The fabric upholstery options for the seat are Ornäs standard fabrics and also Lauritzon Flex linen in a range of colours from raw linen through ochre and grey to carbon black.
Re-issued in 2021, the Näyttely chair is part of a collection of the same name, which Hiort af Ornäs designed in the 1950s as an interior element for Finnish embassies.
